** Returning students in WMC, YSE, and YCO are automatically members of that same orchestra in the new season and do not need to audition again.

Audition Date: Monday, August 18th   

Auditions are in person, and by appointment only. Your specific audition time will be emailed by August 2nd.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

This audition is for new students or returning students who are ready to audition for a new level. Please note that it is not expected that students will move levels each year! This audition will place students in one of three orchestras (WMC, YSE or YCO) according to the level demonstrated in the audition.  

Auditions for WMC, YSE and YCO are held in both May and again in August for each upcoming year. (Auditions for our most advanced group, YACP are only held once a year in May, and are now closed.) 

Rehearsals will begin Monday, August 25th, and are held each Monday afternoon at Highland High School in Salt Lake City through November, and then again from January through April, (see below for specific orchestra rehearsal times.) However, our first rehearsal will be held at a separate location as Highland is not yet in session until after Labor Day. This information will be emailed out upon placement with your specific orchestra during registration.

Students auditioning should be prepared to: 

Sight read 

Play a three-octave scale 

Play 2 minutes of your best piece 

Violinists in Youth Chamber Orchestra should be playing at the level of the Vivaldi Concertos in Book IV to Book V in the Suzuki Method. Violists and cellists should be at the level of Book IV.

Intermediate players from elementary school age to early Jr. High 

Monday: 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.    

Tuition is $300.00 per year. 

Violinists in the Youth String Ensemble should be playing at the level of Book VI in the Suzuki Method. Violists and cellists should be in Book V. 

Youth String Ensemble, conductor, Lorraine Larson  

Intermediate players from late elementary school to Jr. High  

Monday: 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.    

Tuition is $300.00 per year 

Students in Wasatch Mountain Camerata should be playing at the level of late Book VII and Book VIII or above for violin, and Book VI and above for viola and cello.
