Youth Chamber Orchestra

  • Alice Ashton Coulam was raised in a musical home with her father being a violinist in the Utah Symphony and her mother being an accomplished pianist. Alice started her violin journey at the age of 4 and continued with her violin all the way to college where she received a MM of Music in Violin Performance from BYU, having studied with Igor and Vesna Gruppmann. Having spent most of her life attending Utah Symphony concerts, she gained a true love and depth for Orchestral Music. This helped in developing her sincere love for teaching and helping others gain that same love for quality classical music in all genres.

  • Violinists: play at the level of Suzuki book 4, specifically the Vivaldi Concerto level pieces (Seitz No. 2 or 5 is also acceptable as long as the shifting is competent). Being able to shift is required (at least to 3rd position). Being able to read notes is also needed.

Students must maintain private string lessons.

Violists & Cellists: play at the level of Suzuki book 3 or above and have beginning shifting skills.
